As part of the “Second Scene” program at this year’s 73rd Pula Film Festival, the experimental feature film “Electronic Witches” will be shown — the debut work of visual artist, director, and screenwriter Maja Čule.
The film follows its protagonist, Neda, who, while browsing the internet late one night, stumbles upon a queer cyberfeminist group called the Electronic Witches. What begins as an online fascination and a “crush” soon grows into a real search, beyond the screen, for the witches, for a queer family, for love, and for a sense of belonging.
The lead role is played by Nora Vorfi, with other roles played by Andrea Sears, Emma Gould, Milivoj Beader, Dado Ćosić, and others. The film was produced by Kreativni sindikat (Creative Syndicate) in co-production with Osam Film.
Maja Čule, who lives and works between New York and Zagreb and teaches film and interactive media at Brooklyn College, combines personal story and digital mythology in this work. The film explores questions of identity, technology, and the possibilities of genuine connection in today’s digital world.
